There's a reason radiant floor heating gets called luxurious: warm floors from the moment you step out of bed, even temperatures in every corner, and lower energy bills. It's a favorite for new builds, bathroom remodels, and basement finishes. This guide covers how radiant heat works and where it fits in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.

How radiant floor heating is installed

For hydronic radiant, we embed flexible PEX tubing in a concrete slab or over a wood subfloor, then connect it to a manifold and boiler. Electric radiant uses heating mats or cables installed under the flooring. Both are installed before or during the flooring stage, which is why radiant pairs so well with remodels and new construction.

Hydronic vs. electric radiant

Hydronic radiant — hot water through tubing — is best for whole-home heating and long-term efficiency, powered by a boiler. Electric radiant — mats or cables — is ideal for single rooms, bathrooms, or small additions where running water lines isn't practical. We help you choose based on the scope of your project and your budget.

Which flooring works with radiant heat?

Tile and concrete are ideal because they conduct heat beautifully and hold warmth. Engineered hardwood, laminate, and luxury vinyl also work with proper installation to allow for thermal movement. We coordinate with your flooring contractor to ensure compatibility and protect both the heating system and the floor.

Energy savings you can feel

Radiant heating is typically 15–30% more efficient than forced air because it warms at lower water temperatures and loses less heat through ducts. Because the warmth rises from the floor, you feel comfortable at a lower thermostat setting — which lowers monthly bills without sacrificing comfort.

Where radiant heating shines

  • Bathroom remodels and primary suites.
  • Basement finishing and additions.
  • New home construction.
  • Whole-home hydronic radiant in new builds.

Can radiant heat be added to an existing home?

Yes — especially in single rooms like bathrooms, basements, or additions. Electric mat systems install over most subfloors, and hydronic retrofit is possible during a renovation. Whole-home radiant is easiest in new construction. We assess your space and recommend the most practical approach for your goals and budget.
